What are the most important features for small kitchens?

For any small kitchen space there are a number of important design considerations to take into account, as well as some important features to add to the design. These features include:

  • Hidden hardware- small kitchen spaces can be greatly improved by hiding some of the hardware. This means using a handle-less design so that knobs and handles are not protruding from the cabinet doors, causing visual disruption as well as taking up valuable space. It also means using integrated appliances so that things like ovens, fridges and freezers can be built into the cabinets themselves. This allows the small kitchen space to have a uniform visual result with the appliances not taking up any additional space either.
  • Using corner storage- every small amount of space counts in a small kitchen and for this reason its important to add corner storage. This can be designed to blend into your kitchen with cabinets extending around corners, or you can opt for open shelves or an alternative design to add storage space to the corner of your small kitchen. This can help increase the amount of storage available and make your kitchen more practical while helping to keep the space tidy.
  • Slimline cabinets- where possible it can be a good option to use slimline cabinets in a small kitchen. This helps to conserve space in the kitchen while still providing plenty of storage space. Slimline kitchen sinks and appliances can also be purchased, although you may not be able to integrate all of the appliances this way.
